Case study: CPG, global brand
CPG content strategy: 18 percent of a global brand’s organic impressions
A global consumer packaged goods brand wanted to take share of voice from its primary competitors on the everyday questions its customers search for most. Over two years, an intent-led content strategy produced more than 1,000 pieces of content and delivered 101 million incremental organic impressions in 2025 alone.

Background
The situation

The brand is a household name in its category with a large product catalog and an established website. Its challenge was not visibility for its own products. It was the informational search shelf: the practical questions its customers ask before and after they buy, where competing brands and publishers held more share of voice on the topics that mattered most.
Winning that shelf meant a content strategy that could scale without producing noise. Every piece had to target demand that competitors were already capturing, be written to a standard that could outrank them, and be measured against a share-of-voice baseline rather than page views alone.
What the brand needed
- A data-backed way to choose which topics to write, and in what order
- A repeatable production process its own writers and subject experts could run
- Content optimized fully before publishing, not fixed after
- Paid and organic search working together on the same pages
- Share-of-voice tracking that showed movement against named competitors
What we did
A content strategy built on search intent modeling, competitor auditing, and a production process the brand’s own team could sustain year after year.
Intent modeling by topic
Modeled consumer search intent across the brand’s priority topics to find the specific areas where competitors held more share of voice and where search demand proved consumers were asking.
Competitor content audits
Audited the top-ranking competitor pages in each area to identify the attributes that were winning: depth, structure, questions answered, formats, and internal linking.
A brief for every piece
Each piece started from a content card: purpose and intent, URL, H1, primary and supporting keywords, internal links, and high-ranking competitor examples, so writers started from the target rather than guessing at it.
Client-side production, expert review
The brand’s writers drafted from the brief. The search team and subject matter experts audited every draft for accuracy and for the elements on the card, then wrote optimized metadata before publishing.
Paid search on new pages
Paid search campaigns pointed at newly published articles to give them immediate top-of-page visibility while organic authority built underneath.
Share-of-voice monitoring
Search share of voice tracked continuously against named competitors so the strategy could respond to fluctuations, respond to competitive pressure, and choose the next topics from data.
Results
The results across two years

| US results, content strategy | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Content created and published | Over 750 (including Spanish-language pages) | Over 150 new, 1,015 under the strategy |
| Incremental organic impressions | 31 million | 101.4 million |
| Organic clicks to the new content | 523,500 | 795,000 |
| Share of the brand’s domestic site | 11% of total traffic | 18% of total impressions |
| Paid search support on new content | 419,800 impressions, 39,000 clicks | 28 million impressions, 1.56 million clicks |
Google Search Console, US searchers, calendar years 2024 and 2025. Paid figures from Google Ads. The 2024 share figure is of total domestic traffic; the 2025 share figure is of total domestic impressions. Figures rounded as reported to the client.
The second year is the one that shows the compounding effect. With about a fifth as many new pieces published in 2025 as in 2024, incremental impressions more than tripled and clicks grew by about half, because the earlier content kept maturing while the new pieces added to it. By the end of 2025 the strategy accounted for 18 percent of everything the brand’s domestic site showed up for in Google.
Paid search grew alongside it. Where 2024 support covered three articles and produced about 420,000 impressions, the 2025 plan put paid behind newly published pieces as a matter of course and produced 28 million paid impressions and 1.56 million paid clicks, holding the top of the page while organic rankings caught up.
Why it worked
What made it work

Three things carried the strategy. First, data chose the topics: share-of-voice tracking quantified where competitors were ahead and where demand existed, so the writing queue was never a guess. Second, the production process was the brand’s own, with the search team supplying the brief and the quality gate rather than the words, which is what let it reach more than 1,000 pieces without the quality slipping. Third, paid and organic were planned together, so a new piece was never invisible in its first months.
The result is a content foundation that keeps compounding: every piece published under the strategy is still earning impressions, still ranking against the same competitors, and still feeding the share-of-voice data that chooses what comes next.
The production process
Six steps, repeated for every piece of content, with the brand’s team doing the writing and publishing and the search team owning the targeting and the quality gate.
Identify topics
Intent modeling surfaces the topical areas with the best mix of demand and competitive opportunity, approved by the brand.
Brief each piece
A content card per piece: intent, URL, H1, keywords, internal links, and the competitor examples to beat.
Draft
The brand’s writers draft from the card.
Audit and optimize
Search and subject experts check the draft against the card and for accuracy, then write the metadata.
Publish
The brand publishes the fully optimized content.
Request indexing
The search team submits the page and begins tracking it against the share-of-voice baseline.
